childhood, youth time and family:

I was born in 1944, grew up in “Balvanera Sur” in a very poor and crowded tenement (conventillo) full of tango, of course.
I lived among the "Milongas de Patio", danced with music on the radio: "Milongas de Los Domingos”, and listening: "Glostora Tango Club", every week day in my life.

My family began arriving in Argentina from Eastern Europe in the earlier 900.
My father was born in 1916 and grew up behind the old “Mercado de Abasto” (heavy Tango neighbourhood).
In 1928; the brother of my paternal grandfather published a Tango with our family name .......it was the Tango "Pobre Engrupido"

Also I remember my parents dancing tango and paso doble with me in their arms.
Darienzo gave me joy, he brought humor. The music of his milongas moved my body early in my childhood, as the Castillo candombes.
My father loved Darienzo for his "Cumparsita", Di Sarli for his finest smoothness and Pugliese as an extraordinary musician and communist naturally...

At the age of 11 I was thrilled with Pugliese-Moran and at 12- Dagostino-Vargas made me cry.
In 1954 my father was captured and sent to prison together with Pugliese among many people. - I met Pugliese for the first time in person during visits to prisoners.

In 1956 my mother's sister “got a bad boyfriend” …..a milonguero ... ... who taught me how to lead - and how to make a “clean step”. I began to frequent the "practicas" for men only.

(Just between men….women never come to any “practica”, we had to learn how to follow first).
I use to play dancing with milongas music, and the older boys gave me the nickname “che milonga”
Thus, the Tango was for me, part of the everyday life.

I saw dancing Apilado (Milonguero) like in downtown, Orillero in neighbourhoods away, also Canyengue in the patio`s parties, and good TANGO de SALON (no figures at all, just high quality walking) at family parties and some neighbourhood milongas.
Also I danced with Carmen Calderon (born in 1905), the "Cachafaz" partner (picture), some time, and also I visited her home.
...………………………………………………………………………………………..
Slowly I became interested in the history of our Tango, and particularly in the research on history of our dance...
People older than me introduced me to Petroleo (Carlos Estevez)(born in 1912) to help me in my research.

…..and after…..

I was invited to dance in tribute to Tania (Discepolo´s life partner) that took place in the “Teatro San Martin” (Cultural Centre).

I was invited by Nelly Omar (picture) to dance in her recital with Sara Melul: “Teatro Roma de Avellaneda”.
This recital was her 70th anniversary with the tango.
Nelly was born in 1911, before the first tango lyric show up……

In the '80s some friends encouraged me to open a dance academy.
In 1993, I was appointed professor at the “Universidad Del Tango de Buenos Aires”, (History and Sociology area).

In 1995 a German teacher, met me dancing at a milonga in Buenos Aires and invited me to teach in Munich.
From that moment I started to travel “around the world” up to 3 times a year, teaching, lecturing and performing in festivals in:
